Wave Wireless Networking, a division of SPEEDCOM Wireless Corporation (NASDAQ:SPWC), a leading provider of broadband wireless solutions, today launched the SPEEDWAVE LM155 digital microwave radios.

As Wave's newest addition to the SPEEDWAVE line of licensed digital microwave radio products, the LM155 supports point-topoint radio communications at speeds up to 155 Mb/s. Designed to meet the needs of broadband telecommunications carriers, the SPEEDWAVE LM155 offers maximal uptime, high-performance and flexible deployment options. SPEEDWAVE LM155 digital microwave radios operate in frequencies from 18 GHz to 38 GHz, offer scalable data rates and include remote network management control via SNMP.

"The LM155 is ideal for Internet Service Providers (ISPs), telecommunication carriers and private enterprises looking for fiber connectivity speed without the cost or implementation delays. Even in competitive domestic markets, compared with leasing an OC-3 or trenching fiber, many customers will enjoy an ROI of less than 4 months," stated Patrick Pacifico, vice president of Marketing and Product Management for Wave.

According to a market research study released by Infonetics Research, "The Tier 1 Service Provider Opportunity, US/Canada 2001," "Tier 1 service provider network equipment expenditures will grow 70%, from $9.6 billion to $16.3 billion between 2001 and 2005. Tier 1 service providers are cutting capital expenditures, but they're still spending billions on equipment because they need to roll out newer, higher margin advanced data services and expand their network to keep up with traffic demand. Their major concerns are now revenues and profitability," noted Kevin Mitchell, analyst for Infonetics Research and co-author of the study.

Carriers may use the SPEEDWAVE LM155 to construct wireless Metropolitan Area Networks, wireless SONET rings and/or Wide Area Networks. The versatility the LM155 demonstrates is an attractive benefit to service providers, who face connectivity challenges in providing their services to a variety of customers. The LM155 provides a secure backbone connection that is easily upgradeable and quickly deployable.

The SPEEDWAVE LM155 digital microwave radio ensures a highly reliable, stable link and fiber equivalent data connection. Enterprise customers use the SPEEDWAVE LM155 to include simultaneous transport of both Fast Ethernet and separate DS-3 signals to connect LAN and voice systems between buildings over a single broadband wireless communications link.
