New Access EtherLinX Cuts the Cost of Delivering Metropolitan Ethernet Services to Business Customers

FOOTHILL RANCH, CA -- IMC Networks, a worldwide leader in fiber access solutions, has introduced Optical Ethernet customer premises equipment designed to eliminate the need for additional edge devices. The new Access EtherLinX/4 performs remote end management, optical-to-electrical demarcation, rate limiting, traffic prioritization, and provides customers with a VLAN-based entry point to the MAN fiber services. Service providers are now able to deliver bandwidth-scalable "Transparent LAN", virtual local area networking, and other metro Ethernet services more cost-effectively than ever. The remote operation, administration and maintenance capabilities of Access EtherLinX drastically lower operator costs by minimizing customer site visits after the initial equipment set up.

"The Access EtherLinX/4 represents a major breakthrough in Ethernet-based CPE in terms of price and performance, " said Jerry Roby, Chairman and CEO of IMC Networks. "We are able to combine a host of features into one unit that addresses the needs of service providers when it comes to operating profitable Optical Ethernet services", continued Roby.

Features and Functionality
The compact Access EtherLinX/4 unit includes a 100 Mbps fiber WAN uplink port and four 10/100 twisted pair LAN ports providing the interface to the customer network. Bi-directional bandwidth control is available in 32 Kbps increments up to 100 Mbps - should customer requirements change, more bandwidth can be allocated in seconds without sending a technician on site. In secure mode, Access EtherLinX/4 differentiates and separates customer traffic based on VLAN IDs - the downlink ports accept traffic only through the uplink to provide total security between individual customers or virtual local area networks. Supporting a full range of VLAN IDs, traffic prioritization, IGMP multicast pruning, as well as Telnet, TFTP and SNMP for configuration and proactive management, the Access EtherLinX/4 is an ideal solution for providing Ethernet-based broadband access to businesses and multi-tenant buildings.

Availability and Pricing
Available immediately, the Access EtherLinX/4 and IMC Networks' other solutions are distributed domestically by Graybar, Ingram Micro, Tech Data and by a network of distributors in over 50 countries. The Access EtherLinX/4 list prices range from $430 to $1,380 depending on the configuration.
