GDT Lands Lumos Networks Project Ark

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) - GDT, an award-winning technology integrator and Cisco Gold Partner, has completed the deployment of mission-critical Cisco equipment for Lumos Networks, a fiber-based service provider that serves carrier, enterprise and residential customers in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US. This rollout made operational the Lumos Networks Project Ark, a new state of the art broadband MPLS/IP fiber network designed primarily to handle fiber to the cell (FTTC) site traffic within the company’s network.

“Our long-term relationship with both Lumos Networks and Cisco has earned us their trust on this most important project,” said JW Roberts, CEO of GDT. “We are proud to be part of a team that is bringing a world-class network with state-of-the-art IP-based telecommunications services to Lumos Networks and their customers.”

In one month, GDT deployed devices from the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers and other Cisco integrated services routers at Lumos sites in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. GDT also provided turnkey professional services that, in addition to installation, included site surveys at each location, network design assistance, project management and scheduling, equipment and materials procurement, and site-specific documentation as well as staging and testing in the GDT Labs in Dallas, Texas.

“The communication and detailed coordination of resources by GDT was critical to the success of Project Ark,” said Tim Blitz, Lumos CEO.

Testing in GDT Labs demonstrated to Lumos Networks, prior to product shipment, that the configuration and initial deployment of Project Ark equipment would accommodate minimum bandwidth of 1,500 unique FTTC sites with an average of 1.5 tenants per site and 400 MBs of throughput at each tenant, all on Carrier Ethernet.

“The GDT team worked effectively and efficiently with our Lumos Project Ark team,” said Craig Drinkhall, Lumos CTO. “Its execution was outstanding and resulted in lighting up Project Ark ahead of schedule.”
