AOI Introduces SFP Transceivers For CWDM/DWDM 4 Gigabit Fibre Channel

Sugar Land, TX - Applied Optoelectronics, Inc. (AOI), a leading manufacturer of laser diodes, photodetectors, and optical modules for fiber optic communications systems, has announced the introduction of two new fiber optic small form factor pluggable (SFP) transceivers for CWDM and DWDM 4 Gigabit Fibre Channel.

AOI is introducing SFP MSA compliant transceivers for use in Fibre Channel links for data rates up to the 400MByte/4.25Gbps rate meeting the 4 Gigabit Fibre Channel OMA requirement for 80 km link distances. WDM technology maximizes fiber optic bandwidth for high traffic Storage Area Network (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), Access and Transport Networks.

The A5CL-ZDxx-FDAA DWDM 4G FC SFP Features:

  • Up to 4.25Gbps data rate
  • Extended Link budget with APD detector for 80km reach
  • Hot pluggable DWDM MSA compatible
  • Receiver Variable Decision Threshold Control
  • Serial ID functionality support
  • Digital diagnostic SFF-8472 compliant
  • Low power dissipation
  • Temperature stabilized DFB laser transmitter
  • C-Band ITU Grid (100GHz) source
  • Wavelength controlled within +/- 0.1nm over life and temperature
  • Extended operating range: -10°C to 75°C case temperature

The A5CL-xCxx-FDAA CWDM 4G FC SFP Features:

  • Hot pluggable SFP Multi-Source Agreement compliant
  • Serial ID functionality support
  • FC-PI 13.0 compliant
  • Low power dissipation
  • Integrated high speed, low dispersion penalty uncooled CWDM distributed-feedback (DFB), multiquantum-well (MQW) laser
  • APD detector for 80km reach
  • Digital diagnostic SFF-8472 compliant
  • -10°C to +75°C operating temperature range
  • Meets GR 468 reliability specifications

Transmission, switching equipment, and network appliance manufacturers use high-speed Fibre Channel SFP's as a flexible fiber optic port offering. 4G pluggable transceivers help the OEM customer meet the demand for high volume, high reliability mainframe data storage (i.e. off-site storage mirroring), video, and/or mixed media content storage and service delivery via core or edge topologies.

Samples are currently available and volume shipments will start in September.
