RCN Metro Optical Networks Goes International: Expands Network Footprint Into Toronto

Herndon, VA - RCN Metro Optical Networks, a division of RCN Corporation and a premier provider of fiber optic-based network solutions, today announced plans to extend its network from 111 8th Avenue, New York City, New York into Toronto, Canada. Beginning May 31, 2010, RCN Metro will offer the region low-latency Ethernet services including switched Ethernet, "Burstable" Ethernet and full-rate up to 1 Gigabit Ethernet.

"After New York and Chicago, Toronto represents the third largest financial services center in North America. This network expansion provides RCN Metro a tremendous opportunity to further expand the reach of our, ultra-low latency Xtreme network into the region's leading financial services markets," said Felipe Alvarez, President of RCN Metro. "The city of Toronto is home to many of the world's top banks as well as Canada's largest banks. These firms require first-class reliability, low-latency and high bandwidth capacity, and we look forward to bringing the RCN Metro experience to this region."

In addition to its thriving financial services community, Toronto is the hub for Canada's digital media industry and the country's most extensive fiber optic network. RCN Metro commands deep industry expertise in supporting the media industry as well as several other vertical industries. With the introduction of RCN Metro into this market, Toronto businesses – regardless of industry - will have the opportunity to improve overall performance through sophisticated, high-capacity communications services, tailored to support their unique business needs.
