3S PHOTONICS Enlarges Its Product Offering With Dispersion Compensation Products

4

Nozay - 3S PHOTONICS, the world-leading French manufacturer of laser chips, optical discrete modules and passive components for telecommunication networks, introduces a product line of Fiber-based Dispersion Compensation Modules (DCF-DCMs) to provide its customers with chromatic dispersion compensation solutions.

Modules from this new 3S PHOTONICS' product line address the need to overcome the impairment of chromatic dispersion experienced by signals traveling along single mode fibers. Based on negative dispersion slope compensating fiber technology, they allow a continuous compensation over a wide spectral band. These modules provide the ideal solution to chromatic dispersion issues encountered in high bit rates, long distance, wide-band DWDM and CATV optical networks.

"The introduction of these DCF-based DCMs within the 3S PHOTONICS' product portfolio is the result of a partnership agreement which allow us to enter the promising chromatic dispersion compensation market in both Europe and Asia" explained Michel Privat, COO and VP Sales at 3S PHOTONICS. "With this new product line, we expand further our product portfolio with the objective to become a one-stop-shop supplier of optical components and modules for the telecom market, and thereby, enhance customer satisfaction on a global offering. We indeed expect similar additional partnerships to come soon" he added.

The new product line consists of 3 product families covering 3 types of dispersion slope compensation adapted to ITU-T G.652, G.653 & G.655 fiber characteristics :

  • 2002 DCM – Single Mode Optical Fiber (SMF - G.652)
  • 2003 DCM – Dispersion Shifted Single Mode Fiber (DSF – G.653)
  • 2005 DCM – Non-zero Dispersion Shifted Fiber (NZ-DSF – G.655)

Key features of the products include :

  • Operating temperature range -5°C to +70°C
  • Dispersion compensation for ITU-T fibers
  • Wideband dispersion slope compensation (C-band, L-band)
  • Low loss
  • Low PDL
  • High FOM (Figure-of-Merit)
  • Multiple adaptor or connectorized pigtail configurations available

Modules are proposed for compensation in the C band, in the L band, or the C+L band where applicable.

Products have undergone a dedicated qualification program. Customized models are available upon request.
