A battery-operated visible fault locator detects breaks, microbends, and poor surface finishes in fiberoptic cables and connectors by detecting light scattered from imperfections. The FODL line of fault detectors incorporate a 1-mW diode laser operating at 635 nm, which provides visibility out to 6 km. The devices are available in pocket size, pen size, laser pointer size, and patch-panel-mountable configurations. An optional fiber collimator is also available.
