Village Networks continues to expand
The company, which now has approximately 140 employees, has expanded the sales team and added manufacturing and operations facilities. Additionally, they have moved their corporate headquarters to a new 75,000 square-foot facility.
Village Networks' growth reflects the maturing of the company from start-up to product deployment and revenue generation. David Bifulco, Vice President of Sales, has put a national and international sales force in place to enable the company to take advantage of business opportunities across the globe.
Bifulco, who was formerly Vice President Sales, Carrier Packet Solutions at Nortel Networks, has established sales operations in the areas most important for reaching Village Networks' service provider customers: In the U.S., Village Networks has established offices in Dallas, TX, focusing on the southwestern and central regions; Denver, CO, focusing on the west; Metropolitan New York, addressing the northeast; and Washington, D.C., covering the mid-Atlantic and southern regions.
The company has also added two international offices. Stuart Hosking, who has held senior sales positions with optical start-up Zaffire and Newbridge Networks (recently acquired by Alcatel), has joined Village Networks to spearhead sales in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Additionally, to address sales opportunities in Latin America, Village Networks has added Tom Bonanno, formerly of AirFiber Inc.
The company is also ramping up its manufacturing and operations organizations. Steve Hsu has assumed responsibility as Vice President of Operations. Hsu's experience deploying multiple networks during his tenure at AT&T and Lucent has enabled him to rapidly put an organization and processes in place for both manufacturing and operations.
Village Networks' move to its new corporate nearly triples the size of its previous offices. In addition to accommodating all corporate offices, this new facility has 15,000 square feet of manufacturing space as well as research and development labs. Additionally, in order to better simulate a live network environment and facilitate testing, Village Networks has run fiber cables around the building that connects multiple iOPN2000 devices.
"Village Networks is in a significant transition, evolving from a start-up to a revenue-producing company. I am very excited about this achievement and proud of the Village Networks team, which has achieved so much so quickly," said Kai Eng, founder, president and CEO of Village Networks. He added that the company launch was in October of 2000, the iOPN2000 launch and initial beta tests were in December, and now the company is planning initial product deployment only six months later.
Village Networks' iOPN2000 is the industry's first optical packet node to integrate the intelligence of light-speed packet processing with the power of optical networking. It is designed for metro and regional networks and has been in trials with major carriers, including Global Crossing.
