Transmitter/Receiver Chip

The S2060, a CMOS-fabricated transmitter and receiver chip used for high-speed data transmission in Gigabit Ethernet applications was announced by Applied Micro Circuits Corp. The chip operates at 1.25 Gbps in conformance with the IEEE 802.3z Gigabit Ethernet specification.
The S2060 can be easily integrated into existing solutions. In addition to the power and performance benefits associated with fabrications in CMOS, the S2060 provides superior jitter parameters, and a compact package outline. Requiring a single 3.3V power supply, it is ideal for use in a variety of applications including Gigabit Ethernet, serial backplanes and proprietary point-to-point links. Dissipating 600 mW typical, the S2060 consumes less power than competitive solutions.
The transceiver provides parallel-to-serial and serial-to-parallel data conversion over fiber optic, coax, or twinax interfaces as well as a 10-bit parallel TLL compatible interface. It features local loopback mode for system diagnostics, and meets jitter generation of less than 192 ps and jitter tolerance of greater than 599 ps as specified by the IEEE 802.3z Gigabit Ethernet specification.
