Total Dispersion Solution Now Available for the CMA 5000 Multi-Layer Network Test Platform
Increase revenue through accurate dispersion characterization from one, dynamic platform featuring three solutions for Chromatic and Polarization Mode Dispersion measurements.
Utica, New York -- NetTest announces the release of a total dispersion solution in the CMA 5000 Multi-Layer Network Test Platform. Installers, carriers, and system providers can now release the full bandwidth potential of optical networks using one platform equipped to characterize the data rate capability of each fiber. By utilizing the CMA 5000's Polarization Mode Dispersion and Chromatic Dispersion applications the bandwidth limiting effects of dispersion can be identified and corrected to optimise high data rate networks.
For Chromatic Dispersion (CD) characterization, NetTest now offers two distinct measurement applications in the CMA 5000; time-of-flight and phase shift method. The time-of-flight method utilizes NetTest's superior OTDR technology for measuring chromatic dispersion utilizing 6 wavelengths. With dual-functionality as both an OTDR and CD measurement system, it is a cost-effective and accurate tool for metro and long-haul networks. The time-of-flight chromatic dispersion method fully complies with the TIA/EIA FOTP-168.
The CD application using the phase shift method offers a highly accurate measurements for low to high speed systems and can also test through multiple EDFAs. Using laser technology based upon NetTest's tunable laser product line, the phase shift CD application delivers exceptional wavelength accuracy for the stringent chromatic dispersion requirements associated with high data rate networks. This application complies with the TIA/EIA Industry Standard FOTP-169.
The CMA 5000 PMD application employs the Michelson Interferometric technique, as recommended by EIA/TIA FOTP-124 and IEC-61941, to quickly and accurately provide all of the necessary PMD parameters. At each measurement, the PMD coefficient and the second order PMD values are automatically computed in order to fully characterize each fiber for maximum data rate operation. The CMA 5000 PMD application, with its unique, patented design offers the fastest instrument on the market: only 8 seconds for a single measurement.
The power of the each dispersion application is easily accessed through an inherent, easy-to-use touch screen interface. Through an innovative parameter setup scheme, technician training is minimized and productivity is enhanced. "A cable may contain more than one hundred fibers so each second spent in measurement counts", says Kevin Lefebvre, Ph.D., Advanced Systems Product Manager. "With the CMA 5000's fast dispersion applications, users get the solutions they need in one easy-to-use platform - decreasing test time and increasing productivity thus allowing an increase in quality of service and revenue", continues Dr. Lefebvre.
