The CrossFire 8605 Token-Ring switch enables token ring network managers to make investments in fiber cabling for future network upgrades while leveraging the fiber's benefits toward standard Token-Ring switch connections today.

The new product is a fiber optic version of the Crossfire 8600 Token-Ring backbone switch, and the RapidFire 3141 fiber Token-Ring adapter. It is identical to the widely installed CrossFire 8600 except that it has 20 VF-45 multimode fiberoptic ports instead of the 20 UTP ports of the CrossFire 8600.

The switch supports ATM, HSTR (High Speed Token-Ring), and fiber optic Token-Ring uplink modules, switch stacking, CrossLinks (bandwidth scaleable, parallel, switch-to-switch interconnects), protocol and traffic filtering, and point-and-click graphical in-band network management. It delivers 1.624 million packets/sec., and an internal latency as low as 23 ms.
