TIA Publishes New Fiber Optic Standard TIA-604-5-C

Arlington, VA -- The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) has published a new standard, 'Fiber Optic Connector Intermateability Standard (FOCIS), Type MPO, FOCIS-5,' TIA-604-5-C. The document is a revision of TIA-604-5-B.

FOCIS 5 presents the intermateability standard for connectors with the commercial designation of MPO and is used as an addendum to TIA/EIA-604, 'Fiber Optic Connector Intermateability Standards.' The provisions of TIA/EIA-604 apply to this document.

Intermateability standards define the minimum physical attributes of mating connector components. Fully dimensioned component are not within the scope or intent of FOCIS 5. The requirements of FOCIS 5 have been selected with the objectives of ensuring that any combination of plugs and adapters conforming to the requirements of FOCIS 5 will mechanically intermate and that intermated connector assemblies will meet their common level of performance.

The common level of performance of an intermated connector assembly is the least demanding set of performance requirements in the separate performance specifications of each of the products in the assembly.

TIA-604-5-C was created by TIA FO-4.3 Subcommittee on Fiber Optic Interconnecting Devices and released August 2004. To obtain copies of the document, please visit http://global.ihs.com.
