TeraXion Products Used for Chromatic Dispersion Emulation

Spirent Communications selects TeraXion to develop tunable dispersion devices for use in optical fiber emulation test equipment

Quebec City -- TeraXion, a technology leader in the development of advanced optical components for high-speed communications networks, has been selected by Spirent Communications to supply critical dispersion management components for the company's AE 7200 series of optical fiber emulators.

Spirent's AE 7200 series was designed as a laboratory computer controlled optical physical layer impairment emulator for use in Enterprise, Metro and Long-Haul optical network testing applications. The AE 7200 allows the User to "software select" different fiber types, control individually or in combination attenuation and chromatic dispersion, ranges and event conditions as well as emulate selected ITU channel dispersion and attenuation characteristics.

"We are pleased to have been selected by Spirent as a key component supplier for their optical fiber simulator," said Erick Pelletier, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for TeraXion. "We have been working very closely with Spirent to adapt our established line of tunable dispersion compensators for use in their precise emulation application," continued Mr. Pelletier.

"The special dispersion devices that TeraXion developed for us respond exactly to our needs," commented Steve Courtney, Vice President of Marketing and Product Management for Spirent Communications. "The high channel count of their tunable dispersion device allows us to emulate dispersion over entire bands in an efficient and precise manner," he added.

TeraXion's family of ClearSpectrum™ dispersion compensators, based on advanced fiber Bragg Grating technology, addresses the need of OEMs for flexible and accurate dispersion management solutions. Integrators can choose from a variety of single-channel and broadband devices offering real-time or static dispersion control.

TeraXion will be presenting its complete line of dispersion management products at the upcoming European Conference on Optical Communications (stand no. 375), to be held in Stockholm, Sweden, September 5-9, 2004. TeraXion will also be demonstrating Spirent's AE 7200 optical fiber simulator containing the dispersion emulation component.
