Tektronix Introduces New Family of Modular Video Signal Generators
AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands (International Broadcasting Conference), Sept. 8, 2000 - Demonstrating its commitment to providing flexible, reliable, and industry-leading video test products, Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), a leader in digital video test instrumentation, continued the expansion of its signal generation portfolio today with the introduction of a new family of video test signal generation products, the TG700. This new family of video signal generators addresses the transitional and long-term sync generation and maintenance needs of video post-production and broadcast operational facilities that must support a variety of formats, standards, and transmission requirements.
Video test-signal generation is used to support the repair, calibration, and troubleshooting of professional video equipment. Sync-pulse generation is used to time and synchronize audio and video signals as they travel through video facilities. The video test signal must be exact upon entry into the video equipment under test; otherwise, the measured results are destined to be inaccurate.
"Today's video industry is faced with a variety of challenges, including transportation of signals across a multitude of communications networks. Tektronix, with its long heritage in the video and communications industry, leads the way in helping the industry meet these transition challenges," said Bob Agnes, vice president, Video Business Unit, Tektronix. "With versatile test, measurement, and monitoring solutions like the TG700, Tektronix is enabling its video customers to manage and profit from the ever-evolving video market, both now and in the future."
Reliable Signal Generation-The Cornerstone of Video Test and Measurement
The TG700 is a platform for a series of operational test signal generator and sync pulse generator products that can grow as the customer's system needs change or grow. It is engineered with a flexible design, enabling upgrades via software and hardware modules. Each module enables the TG700 to test to a different format-analog, standard-definition (SD), or high-definition (HD)-including 1080p/24 and 1080psF/24.
The TG700 platform includes a one rack-unit high frame with a simple user interface and four slots for application-specific modules. The first plug-in modules developed for the platform are an analog genlock module, an SD digital generator module, an HD digital generator module, an AES audio generator module, and a black burst generator module. An analog composite test signal generator will be available during the winter. The TG700 family is currently on exhibit at this year's International Broadcasting Conference (IBC 2000) in stand 8.148.
Price and Availability
The TG700 family of products will be available for order and expect to ship in the last quarter of the calendar year. The TG700 frame is priced starting at $2670 per unit. The AGL7 analog reference lock input is priced at $1620. The AG7 audio AES/EBU audio tone generator is priced at $760. The BG7 analog black burst generator is priced starting at $1620.
