Teem Photonics raises $31 million in funding
In a sign of its rapid growth, Teem Photonics, a developer and manufacturer of active and passive optical waveguide components, announced it has received $31 million in additional funding and added two new partners, Baker Capital and Weiss, Peck & Greer Venture Partners, both US venture capital firms. Teem Photonics will use the funds to significantly scale up high-volume production of its three families of products devoted to optical fiber network applications: erbium-doped waveguide amplifiers (EDWAs), splitters, and optical interface components. Plans also include the opening of a US subsidiary by year-end.
"With our newly formed partnership come added assurances and capabilities," says Antoine Kevorkian, Teem Photonics president and CEO. "We will considerably strengthen our ability to satisfy customer needs in long-haul transmission, CATV, and metro and access optical networks."
