Synchronous manufactures a complete family of modular 1550 nm External Modulation (EM) optical transmitters
Synchronous manufactures a complete family of modular 1550 nm External Modulation (EM) optical transmitters. Synchronous External Modulation Transmitters utilize a precision 1550 nm DFB laser as an optical light source. This source is modulated by an optically linearized Mach Zehnder modulator. Use of external modulation technology eliminates laser chirp and allows Synchronous EM transmitters to be used with any standard optical fiber. Users realize the advantage of lower operating losses at 1550 nm, increasing transmission efficiency and reducing network costs. The absence of laser chirp combined with the advanced technology of Synchronous EDFA low noise amplifiers allows designs for transmission systems with distances in excess of 100 Km.

Synchronous family of units includes the Altair transmitter which is designed for direct distribution of signals. Altair has a bandwidth from 40 – 870 MHz and carries any combination of analog and modulated digital channels. The Antares transmitter is especially designed for use in split band, dual fiber supertrunks. Antares provides the highest level of performance specifications. It is ideal for use in system which utilize existing 1310 nm distribution. Antares is also designed for use with Synchronous EDFA amplifiers. The Synchronous Orion transmitter is especially designed for use in short run supertrunks or for distribution where 1310 nm transmitter powers are not sufficient.

All 1550 nm EM transmitters are easily installed and aligned with virtually no other test equipment required. The Constellation system provides direct readings of output power in dBm and mW. The unique setup system allows changes in channel loading without requiring OMI setup.
