The TimeHub 5500 is a next-generation, carrier-class Building Integrated Timing Supply (BITS) system designed to help telecom and Internet service providers improve quality of service (QoS) and increase bandwidth as they upgrade their networks to meet service demands. The system serves as the heart of the synchronization network. By installing a high-quality BITS synchronization solution throughout their central offices, Internet and telecom service providers – including competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs), incumbent local and long-distance providers (ILECs and IXCs), and ISPs – can ensure competitive and high-quality telecommunications services for their customers.

The system's architecture features 140 protected (1+1) outputs in a master shelf that occupies the same office space as older generation products. By using expansion shelves, the full system can provide up to 700 protected outputs in one rack and nearly limitless over multiple racks or floor within the central office. The system's high output capacity allows service providers to install more equipment in their central offices.

For high reliability, the system's architecture is fully redundant. It is designed such that input reference and output switching will not cause any phase hits in the network. In the event that all input references become unavailable, it has a holdover mode that is driven by SmartClock technology, an intelligent algorithm that improves output frequency stability. The product is designed to be managed and is network ready.
