StorageNetworks, Metromedia to Interconnect S-POPs

Metromedia Fiber Network Inc. (New York) has signed of a 20-year dark fiber lease agreement with storage services provider StorageNetworks Inc. (Waltham, MA) for fiber optic infrastructure in a number of MFN's markets worldwide. Metromedia Fiber Network will provide StorageNetworks with high-speed, high-bandwidth dark fiber infrastructure in major metropolitan areas to be used for interconnecting Storage Points-of-Presence (S-POPs) to StorageNetworks' Global Data Storage Network (GDSN), enabling the company to deliver mission-critical business continuity and disaster recovery services to its customers.

Using Metromedia Fiber Network's dark fiber infrastructure in conjunction with its S-POPs, StorageNetworks will provide its business and government customers with a number of real-time data management services. These include continuous back-up, restoration, and archival capabilities, business continuity services with dynamic data replication and data sharing, and an advanced recovery platform that ensures immediate access to data in the event of any disruption to normal business operations. Dark fiber will enable StorageNetworks' customers to perform real-time data storage and recovery.
