Startec Acquires Undersea Cable Holdings With PCI Communications

Startec Global Communications Corp., a long distance carrier that caters to ethnic residential communities in the U.S., has acquired Guam service provider PCI Communications Inc. (PCI). Startec says PCI's stake in undersea fiber optic cables accelerates its network deployment in the Asia-Pacific region. PCI holds signatory status on the TPC-5, Guam-Philippines, and China-U.S. undersea fiber cables.

PCI's holdings boost Startec's undersea cable portfolio to 10 systems. Startec is a signatory owner on the SE-ME-WE-3 cable, which connects 34 countries in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, and on the transatlantic Columbus III cable. Startec also owns indefeasible rights of use on the CANUS 1, CANTAT-3, Columbus II, and TAT-14 fiber optic undersea cables, as well as DS-3 capacity on the Gemini transatlantic cable.
