SONET/SDH/ATM Radios

A high-capacity radio which is fully compatible with SONET (synchronous optical networks), SDH (synchronous digital hierarchy) and ATM transport fiber systems, uses advanced coding and other signal processing techniques developed by the manufacturer to achieve transmission rates of 155 Mbps using only 28 MHz of RF spectrum. Network management is accomplished through an IP-based module which runs on-board the radio. Altium radios are fully compatible with other Digital Microwave Corporation radios, and are expected to complement them in typical network applications where a wide range of transmission capacities are required. Because of the optical 155 Mbps interface capability, radios can easily be integrated with fiber networks.

The Altium radio product line delivers high-capacity wireless transport to support mobile wireless subscriber growth, fixed wireless access applications, fiber network extensions, and broadband point-to-multipoint hub connectivity. Providing OC-3/STM-1 transport, the radios can be deployed to provide a synchronous backbone network for the interconnection of base stations and mobile switching centers. By interconnecting with fiber via synchronous add/drop multiplexers, or access concentrators, the radios can expedite the delivery of services at the edge of carrier networks. Where fiber infrastructures are not available, the radios can be installed in a ring topology to carry traffic at fiber-equivalent OC-3/STM-1 rates.
