SONET/SDH Router

With the Series 3000 MetroStack Integrated SONET/SDH Router (ISR), incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECs), competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs), and cable companies can provide medium-sized businesses broadband access services by installing the MetroStack ISR at the customer site, without any changes to existing SONET/SDH or router infrastructure.

The MetroStack ISR supports T/E-carrier services and at "just right" scalable bandwidth between and beyond these rates to maximize the carrier's offerings and revenue opportunities. The ISR utilizes Packet Over SONET (POS) technology and the IETF standard Multilink Point-to-Point Protocol (MLPPP) to achieve industry standard inverse multiplexing. As a result, the ISR is interoperable with MLPPP routers from Cisco, Ascend and other manufacturers, as well as with SONET/SDH equipment from Tellabs, NorTel, Fujitsu, Lucent and others. It maximizes bandwidth capacity by connecting to the carrier fiber backbone at an OC-3 transport level, where the SONET/SDH ring delivers high-speed services. The ISR is optimized for network access at customer sites.
