SONET/SDH Cross-Connect

The PX4800 Viti-48 is a high-density virtual tributary SONET/SDH crossconnect, ideal for Metro Optical Access, Multi-service Switches and Digital Access Crossconnects Switches (DACS). It is a single chip implementation of a single stage, non-blocking switch for virtual tributaries across a full OC-48 data stream.

Viti is a critical component for the new generation multi-service switches that support OC- 48 to granular T1, E1, T3 and E3 data streams for grooming and aggregation in the metro optical networks edge. The chip also can be cascaded to support an OC-192 stream with any channelization down to 0.5Mbps granularity. The new product offers complete flexibility in switching any column in the SONET/SDH input data stream along with the standard payload increments of VT1.5, VT2.0, etc. The device provides non-blocking switching between sixteen STS-3 or four STS-12 input streams to obtain sixteen STS-3 or four STS-12 outputs streams.

The device allows equipment developers to integrate the functions of digital access cross-connect switches (DACS) and add/drop multiplexers (ADMs) to offer better value to service providers. Existing virtual tributary cross-connect standard products do not have the level of integration to practically implement 2.48 Gbps or higher levels of aggregation bandwidth. The device provides industry-standard interfaces and scalability to higher densities, thereby simplifying the task of hardware implementation by network equipment manufacturers.
