Small Form-Factor Pluggable Optical Transceiver

Finisar CorporationForm-Factor Pluggable (SFP) Optical Gigabit-rate Transceivers are fully compliant with all published portions of the Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) Multisource Agreement (MSA), and with both the Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel standards. Occupying less than half of the board space of their GBIC predecessors, these transceivers allow networking equipment manufacturers to double the port density in their data-communication systems.

Due to these higher board densities, electromagnetic interference will be an increasingly important design parameter in these new systems. These SFP transceiver modules are built with a fully metallic enclosure to ensure superior emission control and FCC test margins.

Additionally, each optical transceiver has built-in Serial ID capabilities, providing the user with information on the module's supported link length, standard interfaces, part number, manufacturer, and other parameters through a two-wire serial interface.

Optical transceivers are utilized by networking manufacturers in their switches, hubs and adapter cards for LAN, SAN and WAN applications to convert gigabit-rate electrical signals to optical signals and vice-versa for transmission over fiber optics.
