Serial Transponder
This solution provides a seamless interface between the OIF SFI-4 parallel electrical interface at the framer and the multi-mode optical fiber. The transponder accepts parallel electrical signals, serializes the 16-bit word, and converts it into a single optical signal. The receiver recovers the serial data and clock from the optical signal and converts the bits back to parallel electrical signals.
This optical transponder is designed to be fully compliant with OIF2000.149 (Serial Shortwave VSR Interface for Multimode Fiber), OIF1999.102 (Serdes/Framer Electrical Interface for OC-192), and with the proposed draft IEEE802.3ae 10GBASE-SR/SW optical interface specification for 10 Gigabit Ethernet. The footprint and electrical pin-out conforms to the 200-pin Small Footprint OC-192 Transponder Multi Source Agreement to enable rapid design-in for optical system developers.
