Source: Sagitta
Sagitta was founded in 1997 and provides advanced, high productivity automation solutions to the global fiber optics and semiconductor manufacturing industries. The company is headquartered in Hauppauge, New York, maintains an engineering and manufacturing center in Tel Aviv, Israel and recently opened an applications and service center in the heart of Silicon Valley in Fremont, California. The company is set to triple its manufacturing floor space, thereby markedly increasing its production capacity to meet customer demand.

The company has recently entered the capital equipment market for the fiber optic component manufacturing industry. This is a $2 billion market that is rapidly growing due to the high need to replace antiquated manufacturing methods. Leveraging it core competencies in automation, machine vision and sub micron polishing, SµPT, Sagitta introduced the Gemini-Pi at the 2001 OFC show. The Gemini-Pi is the first automated system with polishing and optical inspection capabilities integrated on a single platform for DWDM component manufacturing. Additionally, the Gemini will be the common platform for subsequent automation products that are highly focused to increase productivity and quality in fiber optic component manufacturing.

The company is also the market leader in failure analysis sample preparation equipment for semiconductors, data storage heads and fiber optic components. Since 1997, the company has launched three product lines that provide automated polishing and inspection capabilities down to an accuracy of 0.1µm. The Centar has been installed worldwide in tier-one semiconductor fabs, where it routinely enables engineers to resolve process defects and improve yield. The Centar also serves to resolve process defects in GaAs laser diodes and fiber cladding defects. The product is the recognized leader and was voted product of the year in 2000 by Semiconductor International.
