The MP1570A is a portable analyzer that supports DS1 to OC-192c in a single mainframe. The device is a single instrument that can be used during R&D and manufacturing to analyze optical circuits, as well as during the installation and maintenance of fiber networks. It is able to measure SONET, SDH, PDH, and ATM.

The device can measure signal bit rates from 1.5 Mb/s to 10 Gb/s and has a wavelength tuning capability. It has a number of built-in functions including concatenation mapping from OC-3c to OC-192c, as well as CID pattern and tandem connection monitoring. It has a through-mode, mixed payload feature, and a BERT function.

The device features separate plug-in units. One plug-in unit has a frame memory/capture function for data editing and analysis for up to 64 frames. A wander generation and measurement unit has the ability to generate and measure wander signals conforming to ITU-T G.823/G.824/G.825 recommendations and Bellcore 253/499 standards.

Other plug-in units include a through function for selection from four modes (transparent, overhead overwrite, payload overwrite, and add/drop), as well as jitter generation and measurement module that conforms to O.172. Both jitter tolerance and jitter transfer characteristics can be checked for standards conformance. Error analysis measurements can be done conforming to ITU-T G.821, M.2100, G.826, M.2101, M.21110 and M.2120.
