The S2091, from Applied Micro Circuits Corp., is a Port Bypass Circuit (PBC) that supports a range of data rate requirements including 2.5 Gbps for SONET Wave Division Multiplexing (WDM) applications, 2.1 Gbps for Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) disk arrays, and 1.5 Gbps for HDTV broadcast video equipment. The circuit offers broad interface options for designing data communications, telecommunications, and broadcast video applications.

With a fully differential signal path to minimize jitter accumulation, a power supply requirement of 3.3 V, and a compact 20-pin TSSOP package outline, the S2091 offers a combination of jitter performance, power dissipation, and package size. The S2091 also reduces trace length to minimize EMI, and further ensure communications integrity. The S2091 has extremely low parasitics, resulting in a low-jitter solution ideal for use in SONET/SDH-based transmission systems, FC-AL disk architectures and HDTV broadcast video equipment.
