Pirelli Cables & Systems North AmericaC-based <%=company%>'s WaveMux 6400 DWDM system achieved a 10-gigabit-per-second transmission over two spans of 179 km on Bestel's optical fiber route between Leon and Aguascalientes in Mexico. The transmission was completed without SONET regeneration.

The system relied on a Line Extender Module between the two spans. The company also said it had successfully applied dispersion compensating gratings for the first time in a field application in achieving the distance record over SMF-28 single-mode fiber.

The WaveMux platform can support up to 128 channels and reach 1.28 terabits per second of transmission capacity. The WaveMux platform can be installed as a one-channel system and be upgraded incrementally to its full capacity of 128 channels.
