Penn Telecom Leases $8 Million in Fiber from DQE Communications
Integrated communications provider Penn Telecom (Cranbury Township, PA) has leased fiber on Pittsburgh-based DQE Communications' metropolitan fiber optic backbone. The full-service telecommunications firm signed the 15-year lease, estimated at $8 million, in January and has since begun delivery of broadband and local and long-distance telephone services, using DQE Communications' dark fiber infrastructure.
According to Penn Telecom President Frank Macefe, the company gained access to 90% of the Pittsburgh market in a little more than a year, a project that would have taken three to five years to complete if they had constructed a network on their own.
