A Packet over SONET/SDH protocol analyzer, which operates at full OC-12/STM-4 media rates, assists in the development, installation, management and maintenance of networks and networking devices incorporating Packet over SONET technology.

Packet over SONET (POS) technology incorporates packet-based protocols such as IP over SONET and SDH links. As defined by IETF RFC 1619 and 1662, POS eliminates the need for ATM overhead and protocols by encapsulating packets with HDLC framing over high-speed SONET and SDH connections. POS delivers efficient, high-speed packet-based service for applications including Internet backbones, corporate intranets and router-to-router communications.

The WireSpeed 622 POS/SDH offers a spectrum of test tools:

  • Line-rate capture and decoding of over 300 protocols, including TCP/IP, IPX, Frame Relay, PPP, HDLC, Voice over IP and H.323
  • Wire-speed analysis and statistics collection on thousands of simultaneous IP conversations
  • Line-rate filtering on IP source and destination addresses
  • Wire-speed generation of TCP/IP packets (or any pre-captured data

The analyzer is the result of a joint development effort between RADCOM and the Boeing Company.
