Out Of Band Networking Keeps Fiberutilities Group's Carrier-Class Networks Up And Running In All Conditions
Chatsworth, CA - MRV Communications, Inc., a leading provider of products and services for WDM and optical transport, metro Ethernet, fiber optic components, 10GE, out-of-band networking and other optical networking products, recently announced that Fiberutilities Group LLC, a company that architects privately-owned optical backbone networks, has standardized on MRV's LX Series console server to provide out-of-band network management and control for its clients' networks.
Fiberutilities Group specializes in private networking solutions that help clients evaluate, deploy and migrate from legacy carrier circuits to privately owned optical networks. Because Fiberutilities Group is vendor-neutral and has designed its services in a modular manner, it can tailor solutions to the specific needs of each client — right down to scaling its level of involvement. The cafeteria-style approach to network architecture, implementation and management gives FG more flexibility than a traditional carrier-based network option but more extensive implementation ability than a consultant group.
"Our company is founded by seasoned industry professionals who are committed to providing world-class solutions and services to our clients. OOBN is an important tool that allows us to meet and exceed client expectations regarding network and downtime management," said Scot Eberle, president of Fiberutilities Group. "MRV's solutions are an excellent choice because of their features and versatility. Already, they made the difference during a dramatic ice storm last year because we could see what was going on in our network and control the network elements in such a way that our support team could be everywhere they needed to be to keep the network running."
Since implementing the LX Series devices, Fiberutilities Group has not only weathered that storm, but maintained its clients' connectivity through it, when carrier-based networks were suffering through service interruptions. As its client base continues to grow and expand, the group is looking toward taking advantage of new LX products, including a new model of the console server that includes a digital voltmeter, which would allow network administrators to monitor the amount of power consumed by equipment at any location.
"Out-of-band networking is a crucial component for any customer involved in mission-critical applications, especially if they cover multiple locations spread across vast geographic areas, which drives up the cost of management and extends potential downtime," said Noam Lotan, President and CEO of MRV Communications. "Our LX Series devices were designed to offer full visibility from any location, which is a critical feature for a customer like Fiberutilities Group, which needs all the access of a major service provider in order to provide its clients with the ability to own and manage their own networks."
