OpticNet is an OEM supplier of custom MEMS-based components to the optical fiber telecommunications industry. For over five years, the founders of OpticNet have developed leading-edge MEMS devices for corporate partners. The most demanding of these is an angular rate sensor or resonating gyro for dynamic stability and automotive navigation applications. The proprietary MEMS technologies that help control and steer a vehicle can be extended to help navigate through the optical network.

OpticNet is now applying its unique MEMS processes to fiber optic communication products. Current projects at OpticNet include the fabrication of a silicon platform to integrate several optical functions, the design of micromachined systems to facilitate assembly of components, and the fabrication of precisely flat mirrors. A proprietary concept for an optical switch is under intense development. An optical switch, like its gyro counterpart, is the "holy grail" of its industry.
