Optical Multiplexer
To achieve 1.76 terabits per second, the platform uses dense wavelength division multiplexing, taking advantage of a total of 176 channels in the C band and the L band. The system uses a spacing of 50 GHz between channels, and transmits at up to 10 Gbps per channel today. The system is also designed to support 40 Gbps signals as they become available.
The design of the platform will allow it to transmit up to 4,000 kilometers without regeneration, which significantly reduces network costs. It accomplishes this with its advanced optical amplification and built in spectrum analyzers, which maximizes the optical signal and reduces noise to achieve greater distances.
The system is shipped with the company's tunable lasers as standard equipment and offers high flexibility with fully reconfigurable OADM capability. This flexibility allows the platform to operate in a variety of network configurations, including point-to-point, ring, and mesh. The platform also boasts high density, providing its massive transmission capacity in a small-footprint system.
