OC-48 SONET Transceiver
It is targeted toward Cross-Connect, DWDM, Add-Drop Mux, Terabit Router and Edge equipments. This device enables telecommunication and networking equipment manufacturers to double or quadruple their port density without increasing the existing system power requirements or real estate. Testing completed on NewPort Communicationsmet both customers' own requirements and the standard bodies such as, Bellcore, ANSI and ITU for OC-48 and STM-16 standards (jitter-tolerance and jitter-generation).
Features of NewPort Communicationsinclude an integrated phase-lock loop (PLL) based clock generator, a clock and data recovery (CDR) unit and a 16-bit 155 MHz parallel interface that can be operated in the LVPECL (Low Voltage Positive Emitter Coupled Logic). The 2.5 Gbps data and clock lines are differential Current Mode Logic (CML) that are designed to drive 50 ohm transmission lines and have on-chip termination. Included with NewPort Communicationsare additional functions, such as line loop back, diagnostic loop back modes, loop timing modes, Loss-of-Signal alarm, and a CDR Lock-Detect signal. An internal five word FIFO eliminates difficult system loop timing issues and provides a PLL-based 155 MHz clock that can be used as a system clock for the receive path.
