'NuWIRE' Family Of Harsh Duty, Bend Insensitive, Communication And Sensor Fibers Introduced

East Granby, CT - Nufern, an independent manufacturer of fiber intensive sub-assemblies and specialty optical fibers, announced the introduction of an entirely new line of fibers designed to address the harsh environmental conditions experienced in communication and sensor applications.

"These fibers are designed to have long life (22 years, for continuous operation at 125 degrees Celsius) and deliver outstanding performance in applications where temperature variations may be large and rapid, and shock stress and vibration are routine," said Carl Crossland, Product Marketing Manager. "Some of the NuWIRE products are designed to operate with the same service life even in the presence of moderate to high levels of continuous radiation exposure or very high levels of pulsed radiation. The NuWIRE family of fibers was designed to support existing infrastructure as well as to offer improved performance relating to radiation, optical and mechanical reliability and enhanced bandwidth for next generation tactical systems."

NuWIRE fibers come with either Nufern's proprietary High Temperature Acrylate (HTA) silicone or polyimide coatings. The NuWIRE family of products consists of both multimode and single mode fibers. The fibers include radiation resistant multimode fibers (GR50/125-23-HTA, GR62.5/125-27-HTA, GR100/140-24-HTA), radiation resistant single mode fiber (R1310-HTA), radiation hard single mode fiber (S1550-HTA) and bend insensitive single mode fiber (1310M-HTA and 1550B-HTA).
