<%=company1%> has completed the Telcordia OSMINE Services process for Nortel Networks OPTera 5200 Multiservice Platform. OSMINE (Operations System Modifications for the Integration of Network Elements) enables equipment used by Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs) and other service providers to be managed effectively from the same software program, helping to ensure multi-vendor interoperability. Nortel Networks was one of the first suppliers to embrace the OSMINE program from its inception more than 10 years ago.

"Metropolitan DWDM equipment is just now entering the mainstream market," said Robert Burke, vice president, Metro Networks, Nortel Networks. "Service providers are struggling to meet the incredible demand for high-speed metro services that exists within cities across North America. Through our completion of the OSMINE Services process, we will give customers the confidence to deploy metro DWDM equipment, which can immediately enable them to offer new high-speed services and to increase -- by up to 64 times – the bandwidth of existing fiber."

"Nortel Networks is one of the first companies in the industry to complete OSMINE for metropolitan DWDM equipment, an in-depth 12 month process," said Dennis Tinley, vice president, Operations Support Systems, Telcordia Technologies, Inc.

Nortel Networks has completed the process for three key OSMINE operating support systems:

  • Telcordia NMA® System – network monitoring and surveillance operations support
  • Telcordia TIRKS® System – total network provisioning for special service circuits, message trunks and carrier circuits, along with inventory management of facilities and equipment
  • Telcordia Transport Element Activation Manager – multi-vendor transport network element management for elimination of service activation bottlenecks

OPTera Metro 5200 is part of the complete Nortel Networks Optical Metro portfolio, including DWDM, next generation SONET and Optical Ethernet products deployed in more than 1,000 customer networks in 45 countries. Nortel Networks held the #1 position in the metro DWDM market for the second quarter of 2001, according to the Dell'Oro Group.
