Nortel Equips NorthEast Optic Network
NorthEast Optic Network Inc. (NEON) is purchasing $20 million worth of optical transmission gear from Nortel Networks. The three-year contract calls for 16-channel dense wavelength division multiplexing systems and both OC-192 and OC-48 SONET multiplexers.
The new OC-48 gear, as well as NEON's installed base of OC-48, will light up metropolitan rings that connect to a 680-mile backbone, covering the geography between New York City and Maine. NEON will activate additional wavelengths of the DWDM network to support future SONET rings and new service layers.
NEON will use Nortel's Integrated Network Management (INM) system for management and surveillance of its network, and has also enlisted the services of Nortel's Atlanta-based remote Network Performance and Surveillance Center for redundant coverage and enhanced network survivability.
