A panel of judges consisting of representatives from the trade and business press, industry research firms, the financial community and academia chose finalists in each of the above eight categories. The finalists were evaluated on the basis of innovation, industry contribution, integration with current product lines, migration capabilities and return on investment.

To qualify for the competition, products must have been introduced for the first time at ComNet/DC, or announced eight weeks prior to ComNet and cannot have been introduced or exhibited in the same form at previous trade shows.

"The NPAA competition levels the playing field, allowing new products from large and small companies alike, to be matched up against one another," said Phil Branon, publisher of Infoworld magazine.

All of the New Product Achievement Awards finalists will remain on display through January 28, 1999 at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center, and can be identified on the exposition floor by large, blue and white "winner" ribbons.

ComNet/Washington, D.C. is expected to attract close to 50,000 professionals to the Washington, D.C. Convention Center and Washington Renaissance Hotel to witness more than 400 companies demonstrating technologies expected to remake the telecommunications and networking landscapes.
