Multiservice Access Platform

An additional DEXTER 3000 development milestone was reached with the introduction of OC-3 and STM-1 ATM Modules aimed at the optical access market. The DEXTER 3000 is the first of a family of high-performance, scalable access concentrators based on eXpedite technology. Using fine-grain ATM scheduling and the latest voice processing techniques, this multiservice access platform can grow with business needs while maintaining wire-speed bridging, routing, and protocol interworking. Current features include Ethernet, T1/E1 IMA, DS3, E3, OC-3, and STM-1 ATM interfaces, plus NAT and DHCP service functions.

Using the platform, alternative access carriers and MAN operators can immediately bring regional, branch, and small offices scalable, low-speed, multiservice access, and increase their addressable market. In addition to lowering the cost of optical access CPE, the product lowers the total cost of ownership by reducing configuration and management efforts. Other access devices are difficult to configure because the need to process multiple protocols on multiple connections requires the user to track several network settings.

Configuring is simple because it is designed with intrinsic logic that progressively sets out the steps needed to quickly achieve network configuration the first time. The product comes equipped with Messenger, a platform-independent, (Java-based) SNMP management application with an easy-to-use graphical user interface for configuring, managing, and monitoring. Public or private network operators can remotely configure and manage properties of network nodes, links, bridge connections, subnets, and gateways.
