MT-RJ fiber-optic transceivers are designed into Network Interface Cards (NICs)
MT-RJ fiber-optic transceivers are designed into Network Interface Cards (NICs) that are now available from Canary Communications Inc., IMC Networks and Racore Technology Corporation.

Canary Communications introduced its CFN-0003 product family of Fast Ethernet (100Mb/s) MT-RJ fiber-optic NICs. Additionally, IMC Networks introduced its QuikNic series, and Racore Technology introduced its OptiCORE 8191 series, both of which also are MT-RJ 100Mb/s LAN cards.

These NICs use HP's small-form-factor MT-RJ transceivers, enabling a solution for fiber-to-the-desk applications. The MT-RJ transceivers are approximately half an inch wide and use a fiber-optic connector with similar size and functionality to the widely used RJ-45 copper connector. The MT-RJ connector and cabling system significantly reduces the cost and complexity of installing fiber optics in local area networks (LANs).
