Three Kennesaw Locations Tapping Out of Bandwidth Upgrade to Metro Ethernet

Atlanta, Ga. (PRWEB) April 21, 2009 -- One of the world's leading flooring producers and distributors, Mohawk Industries, Inc. (NYSE: MHK), has now partnered with optical fiber network provider, American Fiber Systems (AFS), to improve their networking communications infrastructure by connecting to AFS's Metro Ethernet fiber network. A worldwide business that markets its products under the premier labels of Karastan, Ralph Lauren and Dal-Tile, Mohawk now utilizes the AFS fiber backbone to connect all IT functionality of Mohawk's Marietta location to the company's North Georgia data centers. The move, which involved fiber routing to the company's West Oaks facility, consolidates three separate Kennesaw locations previously tapped out of bandwidth.

Cost prohibitive OC3s and the inability to add additional T1 lines prompted Mohawk to connect the locations and data centers to AFS's fully protected redundant fiber network. The move significantly increased the speed of secure data transfer and daily business tasks, including ordering, employee records, and e-mail/web based systems.

"AFS was very flexible in creating a network and cost model that fit Mohawk's unique requirements," said Jevin Jensen, Senior Director, IS Technical Services at Mohawk. "This included partnering with an existing Mohawk service provider to provide a win-win solution."

AFS recently completed its managed wavelength services addition in response to demand from Atlanta enterprises for more accessible and cost effective bandwidth. These upgraded service offerings give Atlanta businesses a choice of wavelength speeds at competitive prices, allowing them to achieve more intricate business continuity and protect themselves with bullet-proof disaster recovery services. By switching to AFS's Metro Ethernet network, Mohawk significantly increased the size of their network bandwidth at this location while keeping costs in line. In addition, they resolved multiple bandwidth capacity issues and are now connected to easily scalable bandwidth with extensive growth potential.

"The enterprise trend in switching to Metro Ethernet continues to knock on our door," said Mike D'Angelo, Senior VP Sales and Marketing at AFS. "We're more than happy for the opportunity to lend our expertise to Atlanta enterprises. That's why we continue to improve our Atlanta backbone network - we've added capacity over our AFS-owned state-of-the-art optical fiber in response to demand, and we'll continue to grow the network in support of our existing and new customers."
