A four-channel modem chipset provides full duplex operation using a single wavelength of light over a single fiber optic cable
A four-channel modem chipset provides full duplex operation using a single wavelength of light over a single fiber optic cable. The ACS406 two-chip modem expands the family of T1 and E1 fiber-optic modem chipsets designed to make "last mile" Fiber-in-the-Loop applications more affordable for connecting business and industrial parks, campus, cellular phone base stations and homes. The fiber modem chipset takes advantage of the company's advanced, proprietary implementation of Ping-Pong time division duplexing (TDD) which automatically and transparently provisions full-duplex operation using a single wavelength of light over a single fiber.

The modem features independent clock domains that allow users to combine up to four T1 or E1 lines while transmitting and receiving the concentrated data stream over a single fiber cable up to 25 kilometers long. One, two or four T1 or E1 channels can be configured for an aggregate bandwidth of up to 8.448 Mbps. Four additional support channels are also provided that can be configured for per-channel framing or as a single 64 Kbps management channel.
