Microtune's Multi-Standard Tuners Deployed In The New Pinnacle PCTV Dual DVB-T Diversity Stick
Plano, TX - Microtune, Inc. recently announced that two of its MicroTuner chips are deployed as the radio frequency (RF) receivers in the new USB TV tuner stick of Pinnacle Systems, Inc.
The Pinnacle PCTV Dual DVB-T Diversity Stick uses advanced silicon tuner and antenna diversity technology in an ultra-compact, lightweight, portable USB device that turns the PC into a TV and personal video recorder. Currently available on retail shelves in Europe, Pinnacle's PCTV Diversity Stick enables users to watch, time shift, and record TV shows, even allowing picture-in-picture functionality and the simultaneous recording of two channels.
The Pinnacle PCTV Dual DVB-T Diversity Stick is built around two of Microtune's MT2266 chips, the first in its family of ultra low-power, multi-mode, multi-standard tuners. The MT2266 enables users to access a variety of content across digital TV broadcasts, mobile TV broadcasts, digital radio and teletext services, while ensuring high quality and reliable reception. Supporting both the digital video broadcast-terrestrial (DVB-T) and digital video broadcast-handheld (DVB-H) standards, the MT2266 tuner is also engineered to deliver robust performance based on the NorDig Unified and MBRAI specifications.
"Pinnacle PCTV Dual DVB-T Diversity Stick represents the next generation in digital terrestrial TV, and we are pleased that the company has selected our new MT2266 tuners as the RF core," said Gregory Zancewicz, Microtune's Director of Broadband Marketing. "With its new USB line of video products, Pinnacle is offering exciting hardware solutions that bring total mobility to users who want to enjoy digital TV, either inside or outside the home."
"As a leader in consumer video technology, Pinnacle is leveraging the flexibility and ease-of-installation of USB to provide a no-compromise solution that delivers best-in-class DVB-T reception, low power, and portability at an affordable price-point," said Joern Lembke, Director of Product Management TV Viewing Group, Pinnacle Systems. "Microtune's very low-power multi-standard tuner enables us to develop these innovative products by offering superior RF performance and design flexibility."
Microtune's Microtuner MT2266 Multi-Standard Silicon Tuner
Based on Microtune's silicon tuner architecture, patent-pending technology and power management techniques, the MT2266 is a miniature, single-chip broadband TV tuner engineered to give manufacturers design flexibility and low operating power, at low cost, without compromising high performance. With power consumption of only 350 mW, half that of conventional DVB-T tuners, the MT2266 has minimal impact on the battery life. Additionally, Microtune's patent-pending ClearTune technology, built into the MT2266, provides significant immunity to interfering signals, helping to minimize noise and distortion for consistent, stable picture quality.
