Luciol Instruments SA Starts Operations

Luciol Instruments SA is a new, privately owned company, located next to Geneva (Switzerland). Following the divestiture of Sunrise Luciol, the optical division of Sunrise Telecom Inc., by its parent company, Luciol has acquired all the assets of Sunrise Luciol related to high-resolution OTDRs.
"We are thrilled to be able to continue our work in start-up mode again", says Bruno Huttner, the general manager of Luciol. "This will allow us to fully focus on our area of expertise and to be more reactive to customers. We are already releasing a new product, the LOR-200, which has all the characteristics of a standard portable OTDR, with an unprecedented resolution. We believe that this instrument will become a "must" for the deployment, installation and maintenance of new Passive Optical Networks, where the tree structure of the networks really demands high resolution. In addition, high-resolution OTDRs have several new and exciting applications besides the more standard telecom ones. This type of instrument is already used, and will be used more and more, for testing optical fibers of all kinds in aeronautics, military, optical sensors and more. Our new structure will allow us to offer more customized systems, specially tailored for these applications."
In this rather uncertain economic situation, Luciol has secured solid funding for its start-up phase. In addition, it has already received its first orders. "Our existing customers and sales channels have been very supportive", adds Bruno. "Of course, we are all concerned by the global economics, but I do believe that there are still many good opportunities for a dynamic new company with our unique products out there."
