Lucent to Supply $25 Million ATM Network for Bandwidth Exchange Outfit GTX
Using its Virtual Real-Time Exchange (VRTX) system, The GTX will create an electronic market that will facilitate the commodity trading of global bandwidth and minutes through on-line and real-time trading floors on the Internet. The GTX will offer carriers and ISPs instant access to market prices to buy, sell, and resell capacity allowing them to operate more efficiently. With this new network, The GTX will be able to offer its telecom customers a way to buy, lease, and sell minutes, bandwidth, dark fiber, rights of way (duct), local loop, and co-location leveraging the Internet for an immediate exchange.
The GTX will deploy exchange points allowing wholesale carriers to trade applications in real-time in the first half of 2000 with New York and London as the first Points of Presence (POPs). In the second half of 2000, The GTX plans to deploy additional systems and operations in key cities in North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
Lucent will supply The GTX with its GX 550 Smart Core ATM switches and CBX 500 Multiservice wide area network (WAN) switches to build a backbone network. In addition, Lucent will supply The GTX with its PacketStar Access Concentrators, the PSAX 2300, for integrated access. The GTX will manage the ATM network with Lucent's NavisCore network management system providing end-to-end system management. This new network will provide high-speed connections and dedicated and dial-up Internet access for GTX customers.
