Lucent Technologies Receives Contract Under The U.S. Army's $4 Billion Modernization Project
Murray Hill, NJ - Lucent Technologies announced it was awarded a prime contract with the United States Department of the Army as part of the Army's new Infrastructure Modernization (IMOD) contract. Lucent was one of ten prime contractors selected for the project, which has a total ceiling of $4 billion dollars.
Under the scope of the indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract, Lucent will work to engineer, furnish, install, secure and test a next-generation multi-vendor communications infrastructure at selected Army installations around the world. The contract has a base five-year award term and one additional five-year award term potential option period.
"We are pleased to continue to support the U.S. Army as they transform their core communications infrastructure to create a flexible ‘Everything Over IP' architecture," said Dan Bigbie, vice president, business development, Government Solutions at Lucent Technologies. "We feel our track record of past performance, our ability to understand and integrate complex, multivendor networks and our global reach were instrumental in Lucent's selection and ongoing support of defense technology initiatives such as IMOD."
The IMOD contract will replace the telecommunications switch modernization effort of the Digital Switched Systems Modernization Program (DSSMP). IMOD aims to create integrated, secure communications systems for Army bases and installations, and relies heavily on network transformation and migration to newer technologies including Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) . As such, the U.S. Army will again rely on Lucent to help them with the complex technical challenges of designing, integrating and deploying the most advanced and secure communications infrastructure.
"Upgrading base infrastructure continues to be a key initiative for the Army," said Jim Orefice, DoD, vice president, Government Solutions, Lucent Technologies. "These sweeping changes are in direct support of our troops around the world, and by providing them with better tools and technology, they will be able to do their jobs more safely and effectively."
Lucent Technologies has been designing, engineering, integrating, and implementing high-quality, end-to-end communications and data networking solutions for the U.S. military and other government and commercial customers through a corporate evolution that has spanned over 130 years since its founding as the Western Electric Company in 1872.
