Lucent, Digital Lightwave Sign OEM Agreement

Optical networking product provider Digital Lightwave Inc. (Clearwater, FL) has signed an OEM contract to provide integrated performance monitoring and diagnostic capabilities for the Lucent Technologies Inc. (Murray Hill, NJ) WaveStar Optical Line System (OLS) 400G.

Under the agreement, Digital Lightwave will manufacture an optical monitoring system designed for integration within the WaveStar system, based on its core Network Access Agent technology. This new Lucent-branded product provides comprehensive error analysis and performance monitoring of any of the eighty OC-48 channels in the WaveStar system.

The WaveStar is a new modular 80-channel ultra-dense wave division multiplexing (UWDM) optical transmission system that increases fiber capacity and flexibility for global optical networks. Developed by Bell Labs, the system delivers up to 400 gigabits-per-second capacity over a single strand of fiber—equivalent to carrying more than three million simultaneous calls on one fiber.

The companies plan to demonstrate the new optical monitoring technology at Supercomm '99 in Atlanta, June 8-10.
