Recognized for product excellence and innovation

Plano, Texas, January 22, 2002 - LaserComm, a producer of innovative photonic components and modules for advanced optical networks, today announced that it has earned the prestigious 2001 Circle of Excellence Award from Photonics Spectra for its Hi-Mode® Dispersion Management Device (DMD). The award, which recognizes the year's 25 most innovative products in the photonics industry, was presented at a ceremony held yesterday in conjunction with the Photonics West Conference in San Jose, California.

"We are honored that Photonics Spectra recognized the Hi-Mode DMD with the Circle of Excellence Award," said Yochay Danziger, LaserComm's CTO and co-founder. "This award further validates the significant benefits that our technology brings to the world of photonics."

LaserComm's Hi-Mode DMD was recognized for its breakthrough technology in high-order mode physics. Using this new photonics technology, the Hi-Mode DMD reverses the negative effects of chromatic dispersion, a "blurring" of light pulses in optical fiber, which causes data errors in optical networks. The Hi-Mode DMD offers significant cost saving and performance benefits to telecommunications service providers and optical networking system developers, including precise dispersion and dispersion slope matching, high power tolerance, and low optical loss.

The Circle of Excellence Award honors the 25 best photonic products of 2001 for excellence, innovation, and technological achievement, as judged by members of Photonics Spectra magazine's Editorial Advisory Board. The Board, which is composed of 36 internationally-recognized experts in a variety of photonics disciplines, selected the Hi-Mode DMD from product nominations covering all aspects of photonics technology worldwide.
