Kevin Kalkhoven Retires as JDS Uniphase CEO; Jozef Straus Appointed CEO

JDS Uniphase> (Nepean, ON) co-chairman, CEO, and board directors Kevin Kalkhoven is retiring from his positions. The company has appointed Jozef Straus as Chief CEO. Dr. Straus will also remain co-chairman. Kalkhoven will remain with the company as an advisor on strategic matters through the end of its fiscal 2001.

Straus has served as president and chief operating officer of JDS Uniphase since the JDS Fitel Inc. and Uniphase Corp. merged on July 6, 1999. He also served with Kalkhoven as co-chairman of the company. Dr. Straus co-founded JDS Fitel in 1981 and served as its president and CEO from 1993 until the merger with Uniphase.

Charles Abbe will step in as president and chief operating officer.
