Kaiser Optical Systems Develops Ultra High Dispersion Grating

Ann Arbor, MI - Kaiser Optical Systems, Inc., a leader in volume phase holographic (VPH) diffraction gratings, introduces the UltraSpecT-HT1350 ultra high dispersion volume phase grating for telecommunications. This prism-coupled 1350 line/mm grating has both an ultra high dispersion of up to 0.2 degrees/nm and a low insertion loss of less than 0.5 dB. In addition, the polarization dependent loss (PDL) is less than 0.3 dB. This combination of performance allows customers to design world-class products such as high performance wavelength selective switches (WSSs), reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexers (ROADMs), dynamic gain equalizers, optical channel performance monitors and MUX/DEMUXes for the telecommunications industry.

UltraSpecTHT gratings are not affected by mechanical shock or humidity. Unlike conventional surface-relief diffraction gratings, they require no special handling, and if they get dirty, they can just be wiped clean. This greatly increases manufacturing yield and decreases life cycle cost significantly.

UltraSpecT-HT1350 gratings are available in custom form factors and dispersion levels depending on coupling prism geometry. They can be designed to each customer's exact application without large NRE charges.
